What’s the biggest financial challenge facing your organization over the next year and how do you plan to overcome it?

As a growing company, our biggest challenge is always management and deployment of resources. Whether it’s subscribing to new technology, opening new locations, or bringing on new people, we always confront the issue of where to invest our capital where our return will be greatest.

What opportunity over the next year in your job has your excited? Why?

We are opening two new offices in the next few months. I am very excited about the new people we’ll have working for us as contributing to our team to help make those offices a success.

What is something people aren’t thinking about that will change industry in the next few years?

Blockchain. It will change how we transfer assets – wiring money, for example, will be replaced with instant transactions via blockchain – and could even change the way we vote in elections.

How is your company changing or adapting to prepare for the future?

Real estate is a cyclical business. We are constantly monitoring the changes in the marketplace and adjusting our resource allocation accordingly. We are also developing some technology tools that are related to real estate but could operate as their own business line separate from real estate services we currently offer.

What are some of the more eclectic areas of your responsibility as CFO?

Probably the one with the most unusual situations is HR. I have new respect for anyone who’s made HR a career.
